Strong, swift, sharp: golden eagles like Jackson here are some of the most powerful animals on the planet. They're adept hunters, capable of diving at speeds of 150 mph and can tackle much larger prey than themselves—they've been known to hunt animals as large as deer and wolves! Sadly, golden eagles weren't always revered for their prowess. In the 1960s, ranchers feared that golden eagles were eating their livestock and over 20,000 were shot. Thankfully, education programs have helped their numbers stabilize since then, and these majestic raptors are back on the hunt.
