Tokyo: Okonomiyaki

Love okonomiyaki? And seafood, too? Well, you can have the best of both worlds at Okonomiyaki Hiroki. The shop in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, serves the Japanese pancake known as okonomiyaki topped with seafood. Tomohiro Fujii runs the restaurant, and he is keeping alive a Hiroshima style of preparing okonomiyaki handed down by the shop’s founder. It all starts with a thin crepe topped with bonito flakes and seaweed, and then it’s time for the pile on of cabbage, pork, noodles, and, ultimately, seafood like squid and shrimp, depending on your preference. It’s filling, so you’d better be hungry.
